Houston Museum of Natural Science — 4K Curved Video Wall, Wiess Energy Hall

The brief. Guests step out of an elevator and are meant to be standing on the deck of an offshore oil drilling platform. The display is the exhibit — it has to carry the illusion, with the sights and sounds of the rig, for every visitor, all day, for years.

The challenge. Curvature at 3mm pitch and 4K resolution, at 12.5 × 40 feet, in a permanent museum installation where service access is constrained and downtime is publicly visible.

The result. The largest 4K 3mm curved LED screen in the US at the time of installation.

“Warranty work’s superb on it. We’ve been really happy with it. This is one of the better exhibits here.”
— Dustin Newcomb, Director of Exhibits, Wiess Energy Hall

“My role in the project was to work with manufacturer QST LED, John Hu, who’s fantastic, does an amazing job on the warranty. He’s always there all the time. His product is very very good, very superior and just as good as anything out there. I highly recommend John Hu and QST LED.”
— Paul Ehmer, President, gForce Animations Inc
